SECTION VI - HEALTH HAZARD DATA

Toxicological Properties

Routes of Entry

Inhalation: Fireproofing dust released in handling or mixing may cause symptoms typical of nuisance dust including coughing, sneezing, and minor respiratory irritation. Long term inhalation of quartz or free silica containing dust may cause risk of silicosis, pneumoconiosis, dyspnea and decreased lung function.

Skin and Eye: Direct eye contact may cause minor physical or mechanical irritation. Prolonged or repeated skin contact may cause dry skin.

Ingestion: Not for consumption. If accidentally ingested, consult a physician immediately.

Carcinogenicity According to NTP, IARC, and OSHA: Not Applicable.

Medical Conditions Generally Aggravated by Exposure: None Known.

Emergency and First Aid Procedures: If inhaled, get fresh air. If symptoms persist, consult a physician. In case of eye contact, flush with eye wash or water. If irritation, blinking, or tearing persists, consult a physician. If ingested, see a physician.

SECTION VII - SPILL OR LEAK PROCEDURE

Steps to Be Taken in Case Material is Released or Spilled: Clean up spills with normal house cleaning methods and implements, but avoid creating excessive dust. The fireproofing is mixed with water for application and produces slippery conditions on floors and other surfaces. Keep wet mix scraped up and post signs to warn that the floors are slippery when wet.

Waste Disposal and Handling & Storage Special Precautions: Waste disposal must be in accordance with all applicable regulations for materials not defined as hazardous.

SECTION VIII - CONTROL MEASURES

Respiratory Protection: Wear dust mask, NIOSH, Type TC-84A, Protection N95 or equivalent for nuisance dust.

Ventilation: Local exhaust recommended to reduce dust levels.

Protective Gloves: Work gloves or hand creams may prevent drying of skin.

Eye Protection: Goggles are required for application of wet mix and where exposure to excessive dust is likely.

Other Protective Clothing: Normal work clothes.

Work/Hygienic Practices: Observe the precautions noted above.

Supplemental Information: Expanded vermiculite is one of the mix ingredients. Vermiculite ore bodies also contain other naturally occurring minerals in addition to vermiculite. These include tremolite and actinolite. Both of these minerals occur in two forms: Fibrous, which is asbestiform, and Massive, which is non-asbestiform.

The ore that we process has been tested by qualified environmental service and test groups to assure that there are "No Detectable Levels of Asbestos Present".
